What is Soft 404 Error and How to Fix it

Recently, a "Soft 404" error has appeared on Google Search Console for many websites.

This error shows up in Google Search Console (Webmaster Tools) indicating that a page has a Soft 404 error.

Many people mistakenly believe that a Soft 404 is the same as a 404 error, but this is not true.

What is a Soft 404 and how does it differ from a 404 error?

To clarify, the difference is very simple. A 404 error is a code indicating that a page does not exist on the website.

On the other hand, a Soft 404 is not an actual response code. It indicates that the content on the page isn't missing but the page might be empty or contain partial content from other pages on the site.

This can happen due to typos in the link or server issues.

How to fix the Soft 404 issue?

The simplest solution to this problem is to improve and develop the content on the page with the error and then re-index it with Google. You can do this by adding more content to the page or by improving the page title and meta description. If the page has been moved to a new location, you will need to set up a 301 redirect for sure.

I tried to keep this brief. This was a simple article on what a Soft 404 error is and how to fix it in Google. I hope this article was helpful. Don’t forget to share it to help others!
