Earlier this year, Samsung added its Galaxy AI artificial intelligence system to its modern smartphones.
Both systems offer a variety of AI-powered features, but there are several key differences between them that potential buyers should be aware of before purchasing a new phone equipped with either Apple Intelligence or Samsung Galaxy AI.
Here are the main differences between Apple Intelligence and Samsung Galaxy AI:
1. Both offer text and image editing capabilities:
Before delving into the key differences between Apple's and Samsung's AI systems, it's important to note their similar features.
These include the ability to remove elements from photos and use AI to professionally fill empty spaces, as well as the capability to edit or rewrite text portions to appear professional or formal.
There are also copying features that allow you to record voice notes on your phone and get a written and summarized version of them, making it easy to find specific parts of the audio recording at any time.
2. Apple Intelligence allows for creating custom emojis:
Apple focuses on enhancing the iPhone's ability to create diverse emojis, with iPhones featuring the Memoji advantage using integrated Face ID technology to create a range of animated emojis that match your facial expressions.
Apple has improved the iPhone's emoji creation capabilities by adding a new feature called Genmoji, part of Apple Intelligence.
Genmoji is a modern feature that uses AI to create custom emojis based on textual prompts entered by the user.
3. Galaxy AI offers direct call translation:
While Apple Intelligence offers many similar features to Samsung's Galaxy AI, it does not provide the advantage of direct call translation during phone calls.
This feature can facilitate communication with others who speak a language you do not understand, particularly useful during travel. It relies on AI to provide real-time translation during phone calls, allowing the phone to speak on your behalf and translate the other person's words, all without an internet connection.
4. Apple Intelligence integrates with other Large Language Models (LLMs):
While Apple Intelligence includes a wide range of AI features, it supports integration with other Large Language Models (LLMs) to provide additional benefits to users. Currently, Apple Intelligence integrates with the modern linguistic model ChatGPT 4o.
This integration enhances the capabilities of the AI features offered by Apple Intelligence. For example, the voice assistant Siri can rely on the ChatGPT 4o model to provide updated web information.
5. Galaxy AI from Samsung is available on a wide range of devices:
Currently, Apple Intelligence is limited to a small number of phones because it only works on the A17 Pro processor available in the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. This means that iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, as well as any iPhone released before the iPhone 15 series, will not receive Apple's artificial intelligence features.
In contrast, Samsung's Galaxy AI has been introduced across a broader range of devices. Samsung initially launched Galaxy AI features with the Galaxy S24 series and subsequently added them to other devices such as the Galaxy Z Flip 5, Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Tab S9 tablet series, and the Galaxy S23 series released last year.
